What I have noticed, since many people I know are out of work, it refreshing to see how Patti has been engaged networking on Linkedin and focusing on the kind of services her skills and talents can give either an employer or someone, is looking for Patti with a contract in mind.

Last year I found myself unemployed in a tough economy. I was introduced to LinkedIn as a networking tool. I met Mari-Lyn Harris through the LinkedIn group, Phoenix Professionals. She reached out to me when I first became a member.
My experience and skills are very diverse. I have worked in the retail, utilities, insurance, and financial industries. I have held positions in Human Resources, Operations, Administration and Project Management. I enjoy coaching & mentoring individuals that cross my life’s path. I totally realize the value of human capital and can quickly identify individual strengths and provide guidance to help others achieve their personal and professional goals. Passionate people are the most productive people.
The biggest challenge with unemployment has been to figure out what I want to do for my next career.
I’ve always had the experience and knowledge to create and manage large projects and initiatives, just never had the certifications that employers are seeking for validation. Recently, I was able to acquire my PMP (Project Management Professional) credentials from the Project Management Institute. In addition, I was able to become certified from the Global Sustainability Institute of Technology in the following areas: Sustainability 101 & Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR); Green Purchasing Fundamentals; Carbon Strategies; EMS (Environmental Management Strategies) & ISO 14001; Carbon Strategies and Sustainability Leadership.
This new training validated that I do want to find my place in a forward thinking company helping them with their sustainability (People, Environment, and Profit). Sustainability cannot be only about technology, nor can it be ignored. And if done correctly, and in a phased approach can be very profitable for a company. Employees pay a huge role in any company, and I would like to see companies return some of their focus back to the employees. As I believe that employees that love their jobs perform the best, and buy-in from the employees is critical for the success of sustainability.
In today’s market, having the reputation of being a good corporate citizen and sustainable could help a company beat out the competition while still being profitable. Without a profit, no company can stay afford to stay in business. I like the approach of IBM. IBM is requiring all 2800 of its suppliers to have an Environmental Management Strategy in place by 2011 in order to remain a supplier for IBM. If other companies follow suit, sustainability will be no long be optional in order to compete.
I would love to work in Phoenix at a fabulous company ready to help this desert community become greener.
