Thanks to Mari-Lyn, whom I met through her husband, Robin, when we were attending the “Sedona Nerds” meetings. Mari-Lyn and Robin have also graciously invited me to their home on several occasions including many “movie nights”. (Mari-Lyn makes great pop-corn.) Rick Baker is a Caregiver for the elderly and others who otherwise need assistance in their home. I am happy to offer in home care, companionship, light housekeeping or meal preparation. I can provide medication reminders, transportation and household management. I’m also happy to assist with pets too! As I assisted my own parents late in life, I understand the needs of those in similar circumstances. Also, much of my life has been spent working in the field of human services, either in residential programs or case management positions.
Early on I worked with teenagers and later have worked with adults living at home in the community. It can be quite rewarding to see success and improvement with clients, as I have on many occasions. I like the opportunity to demonstrate compassion, be of help, provide companionship and build meaningful human relationships. Spending time in ‘basic attendance’ doing the ordinary things in life, being present, can also be of therapeutic value. I’m more inclined to do things in a slower more mindful way, offering sensitivity and consciousness to the daily experience, which is likely very compatible with the retiree or elderly person needing assistance.
He would like to be introduced to members of the community who work with elderly people. One person I’d like to be introduced to is Anne Leap, who is the Senior Referral Specialist for the Sedona Community Center. Also, I’d like to meet people who manage residential retirement communities, such as the Sedona Sunset 55+ community. Also, I’d like to meet those who share the same kind of work as I am doing.
