I’ve been reading the Art of Friendship by Roger and Sally Horchow, they are a father and daughter team..they offer some simple rules to make meaningful connections.
Connecting is the key to launching a friendship. Remember Malcolm Gladwell from the tipping point? He says “Roger is a “connector.” Connectors are those rare people who have a special gift of bringing people together, they know a lot of people. Connectors cultivate friendships and acquaintances for the simple joy of it. In their little book they gives some ways in which you can to become a connector.
Lesson # 1. Reach out to someone you don’t know.
Who don’t you know? Finding them come from asking this to open a dialogue in seeking out new friends. If you are willing to open up a conversation, you could quite possibly have a wonderful friend.
There are 365 days in a year, just think about saying “Hello” to one person per day at the end of the year you would have 365 new friends.
For me I have met my best friends through networking and just keeping in touch with them.
This Thursday, September 1, 2010 I reached out to someone on Twitter, Barry has been following me and I simply asked him he does and recently asked him if he would like to join me on a call on helping my readers to “Get More Clients.” He said he would love to.. We are going to talk about “How he grew his Yahoo group and is now making money from his groups.” I thought, what a great idea.
Most of us have groups and wonder how we can market to them without offending the members and yet get what we want.
All this wouldn’t have happened, if I didn’t reach out and ask Barry to join me
Why don’t you just join us? Fill out the form to the right on the sidebar, you will be sent the information for the call. If you can’t join us you’ll be able to listen to the replay.

Well – I don't know you, MariLyn, but I feel I've learned something from you today. This publicicity, promotions, networking and connecting world sometimes seems very cold and demanding, with people wanting to connect for very pecuniary reasons. But your blog is warm and welcoming, and your smile is real. Thanks for that.
Thank you Rosanne for visiting a making a comment. Social Media tools do work. Just keep using them.
Hey Mari-Lyn,
"Reach out to someone you don’t know", cannot agree more. I often use my grocery shopping time to connect with the cashiers…and it made them happy that someone is paying attention to them. Although once it ended up my 8-y-old son told everyone there my age….:) on my birthday, because he thought I was VERY old when I turned 40 few years back….lol
Thank you for sharing!
