Keeping a Positive Attitude

August 28, 2011

Positive Thinking is Not Easy but it Works

In the middle of a bad situation our brain betrays us and tries to focus on the negative. It is hard to stay positive when your own brain wants to think only of the negative things so it can make sense of them and try to solve them. Staying positive is a matter of attitude and training to make your brain minimize your panic and acknowledge the negative but in the best positive light possible. Short of being a guru in full control of your mind, staying positive is not always possible but if you are positive 90% of the time you are happier 90% of the time because many studies show that positive thinking leads to a happier life.

5 Tips to Achieve a Positive Attitude

Here are some things to consider when your mind has trouble focusing on the positive:
Everything passes and nothing is as bad as your imagination makes it—we all have had a headache or some kind of other pain, but can you remember the pain? No! Same happens for bad situations, the negative fades and most of the time it’s not as bad as your panic mind makes it out to be, relax and see that in a few days or weeks all will be ok.

Open yourself to see positive events—make your day a series of positive experiencing by seeing the goodness in the smallest things. I call it Daily Miracles™—when a beautiful sunrise reminds me of the golden smile of my wife who brings me so much joy I give thanks, when I make a sales and my customer comments how lucky to have found me I see a future bright for both of us, when I get in bed on a freezing day and my shivers stop under the warm blanket I thank the things in my life that bring me comfort. Are these miracles? No, I know they are not but to me they are to me because each of these little “thanks” I give opens me to see more “miracles” and to keep joy in my life—despite my many hardships!

Control your destiny—this does not mean you control everything it means you do things that empower you and make you feel better because you if you think positively, life will lead you where you envision yourself instead of you letting life bring its chaos to you…make life follow you, don’t follow it.
Find Love—this may seem silly but Love is a two way street, find someone to love you back and the positive experiences will never stop coming. Many studies show the positive correlation between a happy relationship and two happy lives together. Another great thing about having the right partner is that now you face problems with the strength of two!

Receive joy from the gift of giving—make it a daily habit to put a smile in someone’s face and you will instantly put one in yours too. It is a physiological response that you want to smile when you see someone smile. But when they smile because of your action; your smile counts as two, and your gift doubles inside you because you are smiling and receiving the benefit of her joy and yours!

There are many ways of being happy and keeping a positive attitude. Aim to always see the positive so at the times that you can only see negative, your mind will be more relaxed and better able to cope. Do what you can to be positive and your life and even if you are poor will be rich with happiness!

Positive Thinking Can Make a Difference

Positive thinking works when you allow yourself to open your mind and not ignore the negative but focus on the positive. Taking action when you are a bad situation is essential no amount of positive thinking will cure a broken leg by itself so you must have it set by a doctor but instead of focusing on the lost productivity and restrictions it will cause you focus on being able to catch up on your reading, having more time to spend with your family, and on a speedy healing. There are Functional MRI studies that show that people can control pain and increase healing simply with the power of the mind.

Studies Prove the Power of Positive Thinking

Psychology study after study shows how positive attitude especially in the throes of adversity can produce a better outcome. This is so powerful that there is even a new field in psychology that is called Positive Psychology! With all of this research we have proof positive that positive thinking works!

I like the idea of gift giving to bring joy. Of course I mean the gift of my time, or a kind word, and a thoughtful action. Very easy to forget this one as we rush around. We could all be happier by doing this one little thing each day. Very inspiring, thank you.
