Health Challenges at Work 2020

Health Challenges at work 2020, need to be addressed as there seems to be a lack of investment in mental health. The well-being of how we treat each other.

I believe Kindness can make a big difference in how we treat ourselves and each other, before this can really happen weened to look at the mental health of each person @work. Some of the challenges that keep coming up whether it’s pre-corvid, during or after the spread, how much investment are we willing to put into the health and well-being of people?

Of course as workers we would hope that there is some protection while we are at work representing the organizations. We want to be sure that, if we don’t return to work right away that it’s ok. What else do we expect as an employee?

  • Offering some support – like an EAP program, someone we can talk and they’ll listen, perhaps even be able to offer some suggestions

  • Protect the human rights of people

  • Open communications and conversations about our lives and mental health care

According to ESH Today, says “That over half of Americans are affected by suicide.” Works out to be 56% of the population. It’s the second leading cause of death for ages 10-34 and the fourth leading cause of death for ages 35-54.

On average, 132 Americans died by suicide each day.  And 1.4 million Americans attempted suicide, or put it another way for every suicide, there are 25 attempts.

The causes of suicide are many and complex but one statistic stands out – 90% of those who died by suicide had a diagnosable mental health condition at the time of their death. National Suicide Hotline  (800) 273-8255

Bullying is another issue in the workplace, bullying by sexual harassment, research shows that while male perpetrators predominantly target women (65%), many men also choose to target other men (35%), and 33% of female bullies target other women. What a shame!!

You can read more about workplace bullying here.

What are some warning signs that people display in their behavior to show they need help:

  • A change in their performance
  • Low morale, could be a health challenge
  • Isolation, some people aren’t able to work remotely, or feel they are being isolated from other people
  • Argumentative – aren’t their usual self
  • Increase absenteeism – not completing their projects
  • Controlling or demanding..
  • Increased drinking or doing drugs
  • Withdrawing from activities at work or noticing they are not as active socially as they usually are
  • Isolating from friends and family, we all need space, if it’s too much it’s a sign
  • Sleeping too much or too little – their anxiety levels are high, too many worries
