Unclaimed funds
State funds are usually bank accounts, CDs, trust funds, life insurance, misc, escrow accounts.
Accounts that have not have had activity less than three (3) years. If not, then it is turned over to the state, by law. This is for personal or state funds.
The state keeps the money in trust until you claim it.
Unless you are aware of the funds, or if someone calls you to let you know of these funds, they will sit in the in the state’s bank account. Until you claim them.

What you need to know
Some Californians are receiving letters about having unclaimed funds. The state must try to reach you 3x.
While some may think it’s a scam, it is not!
The State Controller’s Office has to try to reach out to you via a letter. If they are unsuccessful, 3rd party people, called an “Investigator” “Refund Specialists” who offer to help you to claim your unclaimed funds for a fee.
Investigators are legally allowed to charge you up to 10% of the money you’re owed.
As an Investigator or Refund Specialist we are registered with the state of California.

What are Tax Foreclosures
Foreclosures are a bit different, if you haven’t paid your property taxes anywhere from 3 -5 years, the sheriff will foreclose your property.
Take it to auction, collect your debt then try to reach you if you have any equity left in your property so you can claim it.
Or if you have not paid your mortgage your bank can foreclose you if you haven’t paid it for 3 or more months.
Most of the time you only have 1 – 3 years to claim your refund or overage.
